Meeting the Easter Bunny

We had the joy of introducing Elspeth to the Easter bunny.  Didn’t take much to sell her on the concept. Our bunny brings small toys instead of mounds of candy.

Elspeth:  “Zooble!  Headbum!”  aka I always wanted a zooble and a new headband.  This bunny thing is good.

This year however, Grandpa Bunny had a special contribution to make.  You see, way back on Easter 2005 he was pivotal in the delivery of a giant chocolate egg to a certain little girl celebrating her first Easter.  Of course, a second little girl’s first Easter could not be allowed to pass without a similarly large egg.  That sealed the deal.

Elspeth: “Big.  Easta egg.  Big.”  aka holy cow, you mean I get this all to myself?  Rockin!

Hope that all of you are having a very matzoh Passover or have had a relaxing Easter.

Due to excessive flowers, Easter Sunday service is out, so we try to keep the reason alive in little things.

It was a lovely morning so we went for a walk. Looks like we might have a goose nest nearby.

Easter dresses and new necklaces from our Great Uncle Stewart who we adore.

Some Easter fun

It was such a lovely day today that we decided to spend it outside.  So, we packed up and went to the zoo.  It was really busy being Easter weekend combined with the fact that they have clues hidden around the zoo and are giving away chocolate to the kids.  The crowds overwhelmed Elspeth at times but otherwise it was fun.

Katrine had a blast trying to figure out all of the riddles and then watching the otters at play while Elspeth asked to see the “baby” when we got to the polar bears and clapped her hands at the flamingos.  As you can guess, the real highlight was being given a sizeable chocolate egg and then being allowed to eat it in the car on the way home.

We finished the day with more playing outside and some easter egg dying.  It is nice to be able to dye them and know that as long as they are hard boiled, they will get eaten.  I figured out that if you crack the shells before you dye them, it gives the eggs a marbled look and the kids feel like they are eating easter eggs.

Off to work…already!

Mark wants to go off to work already. Seems he thinks this is serious business. He did not want to smile for the camera. I guess he wants to work with his hands judging by the bib overalls, the boots and tool box. Good luck son, hope that someone will hire you. Do you think a bit of post kindergarten education and some on the job training will help your prospects? Maybe your Dad can get you in with the city water treatment plant. Reasonable pay and good benefits with a pension plan. I think your Mom will have a fit if you have to wear orange with florescent stripes because I'll never get another good picture of you again. I'm counting on you planning Dad's retirement "Burning of the Orange" party!

Extreme sports….Rhino riding!

This morning while I was trying to get some cleaning done for Easter, this is what Mark was up to! Seems when Mom has her back turned our young son is into extreme sports! He was having such a good time riding and play falling off his rhinoceros that when I looked around the corner I quietly ran off to get the camera. I knew the video would be better but the sound of it staring up would have spoiled his private play. You will have to break into the Toronto Zoo or move to Africa to pursue this new sport! With all the horses around here you have to pick a rhino to ride! I guess if you are good at rhino riding you will have no problem with a horse. You are too funny son!

Hanging out on the farm

We were watching the girls next door ride the horses and Mark decided to take the best seat in the house complete with head rest. Then we went for a ride on the four wheeler during which Mark fell asleep and missed his supper. Mom was not impressed but sometimes the boys just have to do what we do.

Who needs a bed?

Tonight we tucked Elspeth into her cozy toddler bed with her prefered stuffed animals.  Lock the baby gate at the top of the stairs for safety.  Okay, one down and one to go.

Glenn went to pick up Katrine from Chinese school and then after a quick snack (yes, I sent her with plenty of snacks but she chose to share them with friends instead of eating them herself.  Sigh).  Then she calls down that she can’t open the gate can we help.  Well sure enough she couldn’t because her sister was sleeping right there beside the gate.

As I said, who needs a bed when there is the hall carpet?

Mark and I went out to do some second hand shopping and golly Miss Molly we got a steal deal on a John Deer digger loader! This baby has a front dump box and a back digging hoe and comes complete with electric power foot pedal. Mark has some jobs to do around here...I want to get more landscaping done around the goldfish pond. Can I hire you son...even Dad does not have a John Deere! Seems like Mark is anxious to get going!

The infamous shitter

With demolition successfully underway I have decided to take down the outhouse...Yes you read that right, a genuine out door shitter in our backyard! It is on its way out but the cold weather has slowed our progress. Poor ol' Dad loved that old shack even though it was the only outdoor toilet I have ever seen with a full view window in the door! Thank goodness that this old relic is on its way out. Dad will miss it but thankfully for Mark and I it has not been used in years. Yippe another task will be completed this year. Good riddence to it! I have posted these photos just to capture the essence of it. I am sure it was well used and appreciated in days gone by, not not so much now and especially by me. Another memory that Mark will be spared from. I have a long list of things I want to get done before I have to go back to work and this was priority number one!
